A uniquely gifted nun singer, Ani Choying Dolma, will be live in Seattle for a Benefit Concert as part of her Peace & Unity US Tour on June 17th, 2017. Ani Choying is a Nepalese Buddhist nun and an internationally acclaimed singer of traditional and modernized Buddhist chants, as well as Nepali and Tibetan songs.
The Rolling Stone magazine highlights her life story as “a journey from an an abused child to an angry nun to a globe-trotting Buddhist chanter and peace messenger.” CNN has called her “Nepal’s rock star nun, a groundbreaking figure… her prolific philanthropic work has earned her comparisons to Mother Teresa.” Seattle Times referred to her as “the songstress in saffron robes… has won hearts across the world with her melodious hymns that highlight themes of peace and harmony.”
Internationally acclaimed for her simply stunning interpretations of Buddhist mantras and songs, Ani Choying will present a sublime blend of traditional Tibetan Buddhist chants and songs from the Himalayas, which will draw the complex mix of devotion, confidence and raw emotion to present a rare musical treat that is authentic and straight from the heart.
Ani Choying will be accompanied by her band members Nhyoo Bajracharya (Guitar), Raman Maharjan (Flute) and Gopal Rasaili (Guitar).
This concert is being jointly co-hosted by Nepal Rising Seattle, Nepal Seattle Society, Northwest Tamu Society, Northwest Sherpa Association and Newah Organization of America – Seattle. Following is the event detail:
