Nepalese girl killed while crossing the road in North Seattle

A 17-year-old Nepalese girl Sandhya Khadka was killed Monday morning by a truck while she was crossing the road in North Seattle. The medical examiner’s office said Khadka died of brain injuries.

The girl was crossing 5th Avenue NE and 115th Street in Northgate around 8:20 AM. She was on her way to catch the 41 bus. Sandhya is a student at North Seattle Community College. She was the only child of her parents. Her father, Sahadev Khadka, lives in Seattle and her mother is in Nepal.

The driver of the pickup truck was evaluated by police and found not to be impaired. The driver was released from the scene pending further investigation.

Candlelight Vigil set for Thursday evening
There will be a candlelight vigil for Sandhya Khadka Thursday (April 17th) at 7:30 pm at the intersection of NE 115th and 5th Ave NE in Northgate.

Sandhya’s family will have some extra candles, but participants are encouraged to bring candles with them.
